CL REDDON IS AN ENTREPRENEUR, BEST-SELLING AUTHOR, PHILANTHROPIST, AND THE NATION’S #1 LIFE AND BUSINESS STRATEGIST
Growing up, CL Reddon dreamed of following in the footsteps of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire’s Maurice White and Parliament-Funkadelic’s George Clinton and becoming an R&B Superstar. He looked forward to hearing the screams of adoring fans while performing center stage. So, as an aspiring performer, CL worked tirelessly at perfecting his voice. In addition to singing, CL dreamed of playing football in high school and maybe beyond. So, as an aspiring player, he went out with friends to practice one day.
“When I was 14 years old, me and a few friends were playing football after school. My buddy told me to go out for a pass, and the events that took place afterwards, changed my entire life.”
Reddon reached for the ball, but something happened. In his effort to catch a pass that day, he fell, landing in an awkward position on his left hip. The fall did considerable damage to his pelvis and caused a hairline fracture that could not be repaired. “My doctor told me I needed a hip replacement and that my days of playing football were over.” Because Reddon was still growing, doctors would not perform hip replacement surgery. In a recent radio interview, CL recounts,
“For ten years, I had to walk around with a limp on canes or even crutches. I would hurt so badly, I would take hot baths to loosen my muscles just so I could get out
of the house and go to school.”
CL had great difficulty bending at the hip, so even riding to school with friends was challenging. He had to sit in the back seat of friends’ cars with his left leg stretched across the seat. His limited hip motion meant no movies or concerts,
“…unless I sat in the front row,” CL explains. “I couldn’t go to amusement parks. From 10th grade through my college years were some of
the most miserable years of my life.”
With the football career over, CL focused his attention to music. He performed in the Gospel and Concert Choirs at Eleanor Roosevelt High School singing alongside R&B star Kenny Lattimore. He also performed in local bands before transitioning to rap music. While working on what was to become CL’s first rap recording, a routine medical examination yielded more disappointment— Cancer.
“In 1991, I was diagnosed with cancer and of all places; I had it in my mouth.”
After the hip injury dashed his football dreams, CL really wanted to become a recording artist. Consequently, the cancer diagnosis hit him pretty hard.
“After the surgery, I had to learn to enunciate again.”
He struggled to regain enough of his voice to be able to sing or even talk.
“When I completed radiation treatment and returned to the studio to complete my record, I could tell that the magic was gone. Something about life was different, something about me had changed.”
At age 24, and after several years of pain, CL finally received a hip replacement. The following year, the doctors declared him cancer free. With a new sense of life and purpose, CL set out on a journey to find his new dream.
“In life we often have these eureka moments. For me it was the day that I realized that at the heart of my music dream and my football dream was the same purpose, to inspire people, make them feel good and divert their attention towards something positive. When I realized this reality, I discovered my purpose and realized I didn’t need a ball or a song
to be an inspiration for others.”
Reddon accepted a leadership role at a local church and began teaching and inspiring people with his messages of hope. Using social media as a platform, CL’s words of encouragement have touched millions. His message of love has impacted the lives of many celebrities such as Cameo’s Tomi Jenkins, R&B singer and 80’s icon, O’Bryan, Earth Wind and Fire’s Larry Dunn, songstress Miki Howard and The Time’s Jesse Johnson.
With his brand of love, peace and inspiration powered by what he calls divine intelligence, CL Reddon’s dreams of center stage are coming to fruition but in a manner completely unimaginable. CL says,
“I am very blessed and very fortunate to be positioned where I am at this stage of my life where I can be of service to my Creator and fellowman."
He is now poised to become the transformational leader for the 21st century and fully prepared to bring his message to the world.
